Itinerary
Day 1
Transfer LIR to Arenal
Upon arrival at LIR airport, you will be transported by private shuttle to Arenal (approx. 3.5 hours) where you will check into the Arenal Manoa Hot Springs Resort (or comparable hotel). Weather permitting, you will be able to see the breathtaking Arenal volcano in the distance. Soak away your travel aches in the natural and healing hot springs, visit the spa, try a cocktail at the swim-up bar, explore nature trails, where you may spot some of the magnificent birds and wildlife that live in the rainforest. Head into town for dinner and some souvenir shopping, or dine at the hotel restaurant.
Day 2
Arenal
Catch an early breakfast and then you will be picked up to go on an Arenal Volcano Hike and La Fortuna Waterfall. You’ll enjoy learning about the Arenal area while your guide helps you to spot birds and wildlife along the way. You’ll be ready for a traditional Costa Rican lunch before visiting the beautiful La Fortuna Waterfall. It is worth the 500 steps there and back. Don’t worry, there are places to rest every 100 steps or so! After your busy day, you will enjoy the luxurious hot springs and dinner at the beautiful and sublime Eco Termales Hot Springs.
Day 3
Arenal
Your day will start early (7:30) with a jungle safari boat trip on the Sarapiqui River, where a traditional Costa Rican lunch, called a casado, will be served at the end of your tour. Enjoy the rest of the day relaxing at your hotel. If you prefer, you can sleep in and do the afternoon boat trip instead (lunch will happen prior to departing on the boat). We recommend the morning as that is when wildlife is more active.
Day 4
Transfer to Monteverde
You will check out of your hotel in Arenal and will transfer to Monteverde via a shuttle-boat-shuttle - a popular way to travel between Arenal and Monteverde where you will take a shuttle to Lake Arenal, and then enjoy a boat ride across the lake, followed by a shuttle ride to your hotel. You will check into the Monteverde Lodge and Gardens (or comparable hotel). This beautiful hotel is walking distance from downtown Monteverde, but feels like a natural oasis worlds apart from civilization. You’ll have breathtaking forest views, and a private cloud forest reserve with abundant wildlife. Settle in and enjoy the amenities of the lodge while you get ready for a night tour of the grounds, where your guide will help you to spot frogs, snakes, armadillos, bats, two-toed sloths, and even sleeping birds.
Day 5
Monteverde
After breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up by shuttle to spend the morning exploring the cloud forest on a series of hanging bridges, and receive guided tours of a sloth sanctuary and a butterfly garden.
Day 6
Monteverde
After breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up by shuttle for an informative and interesting chocolate, coffee and sugarcane tour! You’ll learn about these important export crops while enjoying samples! Everyone loves this tour and we think you will too!
Day 7
Transfer to Reserva Conchal
After breakfast, you will check out of your hotel and be driven by private shuttle to the beautiful Westin all-inclusive beachfront resort located in the exclusive community of Reserva Conchal (approx. 3 hours). The Westin is an eco-friendly retreat set between the exotic forests and unspoiled beaches of Costa Rica's North Pacific Riviera. At 2,400 acres, this beautiful all-inclusive resort offers all you need: a location near the beach, a lagoon-style pool, fitness studios, tennis courts, and championship golf. There are 10 restaurants, 3 bars, 24-hour room service and an award-winning spa! And you have access to one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica, Playa Conchal, which is made up of millions of tiny seashells.
Day 8
Reserva Conchal
Enjoy a sunset catamaran tour in the afternoon. Lunch and drinks are provided, and you’ll sail along the coast, watching for marine life. Your captain will drop anchor in a protected cove, and you’ll be able to snorkel and swim to shore to explore a secluded beach before sailing back while watching a classic Costa Rican sunset.
Day 9
Reserva Conchal
Enjoy all the amenities of the Westin, and be sure to walk down to Playa Conchal, which was ranked as the best beach in the world by Big 7 Travel in its annual publication “The 50 Best Beaches in the World.”
