This 8 day, 7 night beach vacation is perfect for couples, friend groups, or families, who love the ocean and want to spend all of their time along some of Costa Rica’s beautiful beaches. We started with some top of the line accommodations, and then added watersports, including surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, snorkeling, kayaking, a Jet Ski tour, and a sunset catamaran cruise. To maximize your ability to get out on the water every day, we’re keeping traveling to a minimum. You’ll get to settle in and enjoy each day with a fresh new activity to challenge and delight you. This vacation takes place in the area of Guanacaste that the Costa Group calls home. Let us show you the reasons we love living in this beautiful corner of Costa Rica.

Itinerary

 

 Day 1 

LIR to Tamarindo

When you arrive at Liberia Airport, you will picked up by a private shuttle and driven to the beachside town of Tamarindo and will check into the Hotel Tamarindo Diria, a beachfront resort (or comparable hotel) just steps away from the white sands of Playa Tamarindo. The beach is great for walking, swimming, surfing, and relaxing. Tamarindo is a bustling town with many shops and restaurants. We recommend trying one of the many beachfront restaurants for your first sunset in paradise.

 

 Day 2 

Tamarindo

You’ll be up early for a private surf lesson. The best waves are early in the morning. After your lesson, you can rent a board in town to practice on your own. 

 

 Day 3 

Tamarindo 

Now that you’re a surf pro, it’s time to try out stand-up paddleboarding! You will enjoy a two hour private lesson. Then you can decide which sport is for you, and spend the afternoon perfecting your new skills. 

 

 Day 4 

Transfer to Potrero

This morning you will enjoy a kayaking tour in the mangrove estuary, where your guide will help you spot all kinds of marine life and birds. Then you’ll check out of your hotel and will be transported via private shuttle to the small town of Potrero, further up the coast. You’ll check in to the Bahia del Sol Beachfront hotel (or comparable hotel), which sits on Playa Potrero. You can have drinks or dinner next door at Hemingways, while you watch the sailboats from the Costa Rica Sailing Center come and go. For a great cup of coffee and friendly service, walk to Nita.

 

 Day 5 

Potrero 

This morning you’ll head out on a 5-6 hour snorkeling adventure. You’ll get to tour along Costa Rica’s beautiful coastline, as well as explore underwater in some excellent snorkeling spots. If you want to see a beautiful beach sunset, we recommend taking a taxi to Playa Penca, a nearby gem, or Playa Flamingo with drinks and dinner at Coco Loco, or walk down Playa Potrero to the Beach House for a sunset cocktail and dinner.

 

 Day 6 

Potrero 

Today you’ll take a super fun jet ski tour, leaving from Playa Brasilito. You and your partner will share a jet ski and, after a safety orientation, will enjoy approximately two hours of ocean jet skiing. When you’re done, enjoy a soothing soak in your hotel’s jacuzzi.

 

 Day 7 

Potrero 

Today you will head out on the ocean aboard a catamaran for a sunset cruise. You’ll leave from the beautiful Flamingo Marina and will enjoy a lunch prepared by the crew on the boat. There is also an open bar for cocktails and tropical drinks. You can look for dolphins and other marine life as you sail along the beautiful coastline. Your captain will find a protected cove and drop anchor, so that you can snorkel, or swim to shore to check out the uninhabited beach. You’ll return to the marina as the day is ending for a most memorable and classic sunset. 

 

 Day 8 

Transfer to LIR

After breakfast you will be transported by private shuttle to LIR for your return flight home.

• Price does not include gratuities - it is customary to tip drivers, tour guides, housekeeping staff. There is a 10% gratuity added to restaurant bills, but additional tips for good service are greatly appreciated.

• International airfare not included.

 

What to bring

• You will be enjoying some sort of water sport every day, so bring several bathing suits, cover-ups, sun shirts, etc. 

• Staying along the coast, the weather is likely to be quite warm, so you won’t need a lot of layers, but it is a good idea to have at least one pair of long pants and a sweatshirt or light jacket. 

• camera, sun glasses, hat

• Because you will be spending each day in a water-related activity, you may want to purchase a cross body or fanny pack waterproof pouch for your phone, keys, etc. - although the recommendation will always be not to bring your phone into any situation where it could be ruined. 

• You will also want bug repellent and sun screen (ocean-friendly brands if possible). 

• Your footwear options should include flip flops, well-fitting sports sandals that can get wet, and sneakers.

We always have one or more comparable back-up hotels. The further out you book your vacation, the better our chances of booking our preferred hotels. If hotel availability is going to have a significant impact on your stay, we will discuss alternatives with you prior to making hotel reservations on your behalf.
